Image Metadata Remover — Remove EXIF & Location Data Easily

Protect your privacy and share photos safely with the Image Metadata Remover. This free, browser-based tool strips EXIF, IPTC and other embedded metadata from photos instantly — no uploads, no accounts, and no technical skills required.

Why remove image metadata?

Many images contain hidden data such as camera model, exact GPS coordinates, creation date and author information. Removing metadata is essential when you want to:

  • Prevent sharing of location or sensitive EXIF details
  • Protect the identity of the image creator
  • Reduce unnecessary file metadata for publishing or e-commerce
  • Ensure consistent, metadata-free images for privacy-focused workflows

Key features

  • Client-side processing: All work happens inside your browser — your images never leave your device.
  • Batch support: Upload and clean multiple images at once.
  • Preserve original format: JPG, PNG, WEBP, BMP support with output matching the input format when possible.
  • ZIP download: Download all cleaned images as a single ZIP archive.
  • Fast & private: No sign-up and no server transfers.

Supported formats

The tool supports common image types:

  • JPG / JPEG
  • PNG
  • WEBP
  • GIF* (note below)
  • BMP

*Animated GIFs will lose animation when processed — only the first frame is preserved. Use a dedicated GIF tool if you need to keep animation.

Tips for best results

  • For very large images, processing may take longer on mobile devices — consider resizing before uploading if performance is slow.
  • If you must preserve image animation, do not process animated GIFs with this tool.
  • Use clear file names (example: product-01.jpg) before or after cleaning for better organization.

Is it safe?

Yes. This tool runs entirely in your browser and does not upload images to any server. All encoding, metadata removal and ZIP creation happen locally — making it a privacy-safe solution for personal and professional use.

Who should use this tool?

The Image Metadata Remover is ideal for photographers, journalists, bloggers, e-commerce sellers, social media users, and anyone who wants to share images without revealing device or location data.

Common questions

Will removing metadata reduce image quality?
Generally no visible quality loss occurs. JPEGs are re-encoded at a high quality setting; file size may change slightly.
Are cleaned files named differently?
By default the tool appends -clean to the original filename (for example photo-clean.jpg), making it easy to identify processed files.
Can I convert formats while cleaning?
The current tool preserves the original format. If you want forced conversion (JPG → PNG or vice versa), contact us and we can add a format dropdown option.
